According to Funagain’s press page: Funagain Games was founded in 1996 by successful businessman Rick Soued who wanted to contribute to his community by creating employment for the disadvantaged, recycling used games, donating games to charities and schools and to encourage families to turn off the TV and interact with one another. In the beginning, the mission was to collect used games and game pieces from Goodwill, the Salvation Army and other donation centers. These bits and pieces of games were reorganized by stay-at-home moms and the elderly into complete games for donation back to the charities they came from as well as resale at the Funagain Games store in Ashland, Oregon, USA.
Inspired by the new wave of excellent games produced in Europe, the company evolved in two important ways in 1997: the retail store stocked new board games (some of which were imported from Germany and other countries), and the funagain.com online retail site was launched as a resource for clients all over the world. Funagain Games has now delivered over 800,000 games to more than 100 countries and to places as remote as the South Pole.
To better serve its customers and maintain its position of offering the largest selection of any independent board game retailer, Funagain Games has forged strong alliances with several game publishers, including Eagle Games and Gryphon Games in the USA. To keep consumers informed, funagain.com also hosts objective game reviewers, including Scott Nicholson’s video game reviews, Tom Vasel’s Dice Tower podcasts from Korea, and Mike Siggins’ U.K.-based games reviews.
